Barack Hussein Obama Jr. was born in Honolulu (Hawaii) on August 4, 1961. He is the first African American to be president of the United States, but until this victory, her life has not always been easy.
Son of a white woman from Kansas and a Kenyan immigrant, his childhood had difficult moments. In the mother's family he did not sit well Wedding girl with a black, but neither did between paternal relatives. Nevertheless, Barack (father) and Shirley, married and started a family. When young Barack was two, his father left them a scholarship to study Economics at Harvard, and then returned to Kenya. Obama would only see her father once.
His mother remarried and the new family settled in Jakarta (Indonesia), where Barack went to school and met his first friends. But four years later they returned to Hawaii. Barack's maternal grandparents were turned with his grandson. With an absent father figure, he had a difficult youth, which did not understand society's prejudices toward blacks. Rebellious teenager with his grandfather relationships were not always easy, but in the house of the Obama fondly breathed. Largely thanks to his grandmother, Madelyn, who worked and fought all his life to provide the best to the family.
The maternal grandmother of Obama died a day before presidential elections, and Obama, noticeably excited, wept unashamedly to his thousands of followers and wanted to pay a tribute in his last speech before the election: "It was one of those silent heroes we in America who are not famous. Their names are not in the newspaper, but every day they work hard and care for their families. " Nothing else know he had won the election, also devoted some kind words to her grandmother: "I know you are watching me and I know I will be proud."
A model student
At 19, he went to study to study political science at Columbia University in New York, and wanted to combine their studies with community service. Obama has acknowledged that his first night in Manhattan slept on the street, it was not planned, but had to extend their things and sleeping in an alley. However, hardworking and tenacious, he began to carve out a brilliant career.
At the end he decided to study law at Harvard University, graduating "cum laude". Precisely in college he got the first milestone of many to come in his career: being the first African American to head the prestigious law journal "Harvard Law Review.
Travel to its roots
In 1988, Obama decided to travel to Kenya and learn about their roots, to write "Dreams from My Father" a sincere and touching biography that explores all, good and bad, of his youth. This trip was a turning point in the life of Obama, who see the living conditions of their families, she reaffirmed its belief in democracy as a system of progress. In addition, he met that part of the family had only heard as a child, and found a great family, very different from the US.
Upon his return to America, Obama was already a talented and successful young but has rejected offers to work in the best law firms in the country to teach constitutional law at Harvard for a few years.
The appearance of Michelle, the "rock" of his life
It is impossible to separate image and life democrat figure of Michelle, his wife. They met at a prestigious Chicago law buffette when Obama went to work under the direction of Michelle. She rejected him twice until he finally surrendered to the charm of this young, talented and daring. Today are happily married and have two daughters, Malia ySasha, which the future president loves.
The family is one of the pillars of this man who, despite how hard of an election campaign, has always wanted to be close to his three "women". I just wanted them to dedicate his victory in the presidential elections Tuesday November 4.
Political career
The meteoric political career Obama seems touched by the magic: in just 10 years, has managed to be President of the United States. He began advocating social policies in his adopted city, Chicago, and soon highlighted their skills when talking and convictions. Thus he came to the Senate in 2004, taking control of 70 percent of the vote and beating much more experienced candidates. It was the beginning of "Hurricane Obama".
And the then senator already had great charisma, oratory, a social discourse, credibility and a perfect smile as best introduction. Its multiracial character made him a good balance between the needs of black and white workers, yet sometimes isolated from society.
But undoubtedly the star when it was in 2004, during the Democratic Convention held in Denver. Obama was asked to deliver the keynote speech and his words of hope, unity and defense of the "American Dream" rose from their seats to attendees. It was such a brilliant disccurso that began comparing with the famous "I have a dream" ("I Have a Dream") Martin Luther King in defense of freedom and against slavery and secession in 1958. For his party, it was a star.
"Yes, we can"
These convictions led Obama to stand for Democratic primary. He acknowledged that it did not have much experience but with promising speech, he said that if he knew that things could change.
Just the change has been the thrust of his campaign. Obama has worked tirelessly during the nearly two years that have passed until the elections, bringing a message of hope and renewal to the American people. Thus, his fame began to spread throughout the world, and with it, a phenomenon: the "Obama-mania".
However, getting here has had its difficulties. For starters, he faced one of the strongest, determined and cherished in the upper echelons of political women: Hillary Clinton, New York senator and wife of former President Bill Clinton. Both fought a hard battle to elect the candidate of the Democratic Party in the elections, and the experience could not beat Senator Obama's charisma. His slogan "Yes we can" ("Yes we can") inspired many within the Democratic Party and gave the victory.
Near and human
In addition, Obama has taken great care that his image is that of a simple man, worker, parent, with the same concerns as other Americans. He loves basketball and spending time with his daughters, which always shows great affection.
It is a great lover of music, and has said that among his favorite bands are as varied artists as Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Johann Sebastian Bach and The Fugees.
While Obama marriage has reaped many professional successes and have had a good economic position, both Barack and Michelle are involved daily in the education of their daughters, like a normal girl, without ostentation or luxury.
The race for the White House
When the tension seemed to come to an end, in fact, it was only the beginning of the real battle: the presidency of the United States. During the campaign, Obama has continued to tour the United States, from coast to coast, tireless, with its promise of change for a better country: in economics, international relations and especially in the daily lives of media workers.
The fight back was not easy: I had as opposed to John McCain, a war hero, experienced and candidate of the Republican Party. Obama refused to slow their pace until the last minute, and his message stalled, and deep, among Americans.
The New America
Obama made history on Tuesday 4 November to become the first black man to get the White House. The whole world was quick to congratulate the next president, who will assume office on January 20, 2009. Obama symbolizes not only the equality of black society, but also a turning point in the way of governing the country world's most powerful. And what has struck a chord in all corners of the planet live the American dream, that dream that with perseverance and overcoming, everything is possible.
